Music

Here is a list of music I listened to while penning Miss Independent. I've read many authors can listen to music while writing, while some need total silence. I'm a mixture of both. Depending on the scene, sometimes I need to hear certain beats to keep the momentum going. Other times, if I hear more than just the hum of my laptop, I'm completely thrown off and tossed out of a scene and its dynamic entirely.

The first song on the list is pretty obvious as it is in fact the reason I originally named the novel as I did. There's a little story behind how Miss Independent originally came about, including an almost unhealthy obsession with all things Beverly Hills 90210 (the original class, of course) and why it took me 10 years to finally put the story on paper. That'll come at a later time, most likely after I've finished book 2.

Anywho. My list of music for this book is very eclectic. Some songs are flat out explicit, so if you choose to, listen at your own risk. The bolded ones are the songs I listened to the most/remained on repeat for a large portion of the book:

Miss Independent ~ Kelly Clarkson

Take Me to Church ~ Hozier

Touch Me, Why ~ Cathy Dennis

Make it Rain ~ Ed Sheeran

Happily Ever After ~ Case

Little Too Much ~ Natasha Bedingfield

Can’t Believe ~ Carl Thomas feat Faith Evans

Halo ~ Bethany Joy Lenz

Best Thing I Never Had ~ Beyonce

At some point, I'm going to blog why some songs hit a certain spot for me and were played numerous times throughout, until even my dog was sick of hearing them.

CRASHED: A SKULL & BONES MC

It's been a while!  So much has been going on within the world and my personal life that I had to take a severe step back with my writing. I hated it, but it was also necessary. Because I suffered from terrible writer's block and as a result, was unable to pen anything worth reading.  I started writing CRASHED sometime in 2020 before stopping and then trying to pick it up over the last four years. I was never bored with the story but overtime, became unmotivated to finish. Within the last few months, I was able to change that and finally finish the story that had initially gotten me back on my feet after Professor X .  There are some things I changed about the original story, such as the name of the MC, a few themes and the cover. But overall, the story itself is the same and has gone back to the roots of the first MC I had ever written and published, Inflamed . River and Mia also make appearances in this story, by the way.  If you would like to sign up to read an A...

CRASHED: A SKULL & BONES MC

Hope you can still be patient for CRASHED!  Real life things are getting in the way of edits coming to a close, and it's taking longer than I'd like.  But the book is still coming! Dates will be updated once everything is final.   Here's another quote from Jackson CRASH Timmons to Heaven Santiago.  This line is probably outta pocket, but I loved writing it anyway.  You were like an ongoin’ shot of heroin; the needle was hangin’ outta my arm like a goddamn addict and I was achin’ like a motherfucker to get back to that feelin’ you gave me in that truck.

#WriterWednesday - Inflamed 'Fun Fact!'

Did you know...? The scene in which Mia & River finally talk about their feelings for each other and hook up was written about a month before nearly everything else that happened prior to it. Right after I wrote the prologue and first three chapters, there was a giant gap of 'stuff' that was supposed to happen, but I wasn't sure how to fill it because I didn't know what any of that 'stuff' would be. So I decided to move forward with other parts of the story until it finally hit me. That exact moment of their hook up came to me as I was writing another scene, and I just went with it, all while having zero clue as to how the hell they got to that point (given where they started)! It was only when I finished those scenes that I knew what I was building up to and how the story itself would come to an end. It amplified and intensified every conversation and encounter between them, hence the name of the book. I changed the cover three times in the hope of ...
