I truly appreciate the passion many readers have for Inflamed - the title is very aptly named, I think. However ( and I never planned to do this and don't really ever plan to address something like this again in the future, but it's kind of getting to me personally and affecting my daily writing process for the next book ), I don't think I expected some of the more vitriolic messages I've received as a result of this book either. Now, I expected opposition to the story/characters/writing/setting/swearing before I was even halfway done with the book, so that's not what this is about. People are entitled to feel how they choose and once a book leaves my hands and is in yours, it's no longer something I "own". Truth be told, I really appreciate hearing all sides because it helps me to grow as an author, and this is where reader feedback comes in. Just some fair warning: You will more than likely get pissed off at both Maurice and Vanessa due to their actions toward each other in this book, as well as a few others I am sure, but those two are probably a given to make your blood boil a few times throughout once some truths are revealed. If you read all the way to the end of book 3 in the Miss Independent series, titled  Live & Learn , then you know that the next book will be called Truth & Consequences , and for good reason. You'll also realize that there is a pattern in the books in which a huge event takes place, that is somewhat the catalyst which leads to change and certain decisions being made by certain characters. Well, this book is no different meaning yet another glamorous event takes place, and yet another DOOZY throws a wrench into an otherwise fabulous evening! Where you happy with Maurice and Vanessa's relationship in this book? I love writing their scenes because they are true friends before lovers. Relationships like those are ones I admire the most, so it was a lot of fun to explore and expand on that! It'll be interesting to see how they handle what has been kept quiet from the other in book 4, which if you've read until the end of Live & Learn, you'll know it will be titled Truth & Consequences . That will probably be a long one too, so prepare yourselves! What did you think about Melanie and Sheila possibly forming a friendship? Maurice was originally NOT intended to be one of the main characters in the books. I might have mentioned this before but it bears repeating. His only purpose was to pop in and out of the story from time to time, offering advice as Vanessa’s good-looking, but oversexed childhood friend and current roommate. That was my original story for him, no more or less. Layers were to be added later as the series went on, but once he started ‘talking’ to me while penning Miss Independent , I couldn’t ignore his voice. It was loud. It was determined. It was one of the most interesting ones I had listened to. And I realized early on that he wasn’t going to let me continue on what I wanted until I sat back and listened to what he had to tell me. Just letting people know that there is going to be a pretty explicit love scene in this book between two of the characters. There have in fact been love scenes in the previous books in the series, but none like this one, I must say. Whew! Some may love it, some may hate it depending on your feelings for the characters involved, but I just wanted to let ya know, it's there! As I continue editing the book, I realized that a scene like that may elicit certain feelings for some and wanted to give a fair warning!
